3 Smart Phone Apps to Use During Your Pregnancy

One of the best parts about being pregnant these days is the amount of information that’s available. Even if it’s your first pregnancy and you don’t have a large network of family or friends to help guide you, there are countless resources all over that will provide you with plenty of information.

Grab one of these helpful apps for your smart phone to always have a source of knowledge in your pocket. Whip it out whenever you have a question and need a quick answer.

Note: The best source of information is always your doctor. Don’t rely on an app, the Internet, or even a friend if you think something is amiss. When in doubt, consult your physician.

The BabyBump Pregnancy – Free or $2.99/$3.99

Not only does this app count down the number of the days until your due date, it offers valuable information about what types of symptoms you might be feeling and when. It will help reassure you that nothing is wrong and what you’re feeling is completely normal. It offers valuable illustrations like you would see in your doctor’s office that explain what your child looks like, how he or she should be positioned, and more.

The paid version has some social networking features that allow you to connect with thousands of other pregnant women. It will track your doctor visits and gives you space to scribble baby names and your nesting to-do list.

My Pregnancy Today – Free

This is one of the most popular pregnancy apps available. More than one million women have downloaded it! Like most apps, this one comes with a due date calculator and explanations as to how your body should be behaving at any given point during your pregnancy. It will help you understand how you’re changing and offer reassurance.

The coolest feature of this app is the “Check List,” a week-by-week breakdown of all the things you should be doing to stay healthy during your pregnancy. It’s perfect for the mother who worries a little more than she should and needs something to do. For example, it says in Week 16 that mom should be exercising her kegel muscle and making a prenatal doctor appointment.

 Foods to Avoid - $0.99/$2.99

This app’s name is pretty clear about what it does. During your pregnancy you’ll constantly be looking up whether you can eat a particular type of food. The app provides extremely detailed lists of the types of foods you’re supposed to avoid when expecting your baby.

It offers eight broad categories: dressings/condiments, cheese/dairy, drinks/beverages, seafood/fish, meat/eggs, frozen & prepared foods, pates/spreads, and vegetables. From there, it even breaks down further into how those foods are prepared. For example, cooked eggs are safe, but runny eggs might be dangerous.

This app is great for a busy mom who doesn’t have the time to Google every dish she eats, but wants to be as healthy as possible.

Written by Stephanie Parker from Sleepingbaby.com, inventors of the Zipadee-Zip

The motto for Sleeping Baby, makers of the Zipadee-Zip, is: "Inspiring Dreams One Night at A time," and that, in a nutshell, is how it all started…with one little dream that has since become the Parker family's reality. When Brett and Stephanie Parker's daughter, Charlotte, was born, the feeling that welled up inside of them was indescribable; they never realized until first looking into those baby blues of hers that they were even capable of that kind of love.

When it was time to transition baby from swaddling, the Parkers tried every sleep sack on the market and every swaddle weaning trick they could find for nearly two weeks and nothing worked to get baby Charlotte to fall and stay asleep.

Stephanie became determined to restore sleep and sanity to their household and set out to find a solution that would soothe Charlotte's startle reflex and provide her the cozy womb-like environment she loved so much but still give her the freedom to roll over and wiggle around in her crib safely. Out of sheer desperation and exhaustion, the Zipadee-Zip was born. The first Zipadee-Zip(R) Stephanie put together on her little sewing machine worked like magic!

To date tens of thousands of Zipadee-Zips have been sold and all from word-of-mouth marketing. It is so rewarding for the Parkers to see other parents and babies getting the sleep they both need and deserve!
