Sleeping Baby Partners With the Pedro Martinez Foundation to Give At-risk Children a Merrier Christmas!
By Brittany Carlson
On Dec. 1, Sleeping Baby will partner with the Pedro Martinez Foundation to help feed and encourage at-risk children in the Dominican Republic as part of the worldwide Giving Tuesday movement.
For every $30 customer order received on Dec. 1, Sleeping Baby will donate a meal and a toy for a child in need (about $8 per order).
“During these uncertain times, it is even more important to give back this year,” said Charles Chessher, Sleeping Baby Operations Director. “We are honored to participate in Giving Tuesday for the third year in a row and are excited to work with the Pedro Martinez Foundation again this year.”
The global Giving Tuesday movement started in 2012 as a way for people and organizations to improve their communities by acts of kindness and generosity on the Tuesday following the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, according to givingtuesday.org.
Sleeping Baby leaders selected the Pedro Martinez Foundation as this year’s Giving Tuesday recipient because of the high impact the foundation has on youth and their families.
The Pedro Martinez Foundation works to help youth ages 6-12 who are at risk for abuse, teen pregnancy and crime by offering them education, healthy meals, and facilities to practice sports and the arts, according to pedromartinezfoundation.com. It was founded by Boston Red Sox pitching legend Pedro Martinez to help children in the neighborhood where he grew up, and to give them opportunities for growth and empowerment, the website states.
In the last 10 years, the foundation has served 215,000 meals, completed 5,000 medical evaluations, awarded 5,000 grants and scholarships, given clothing to more than 2,500 recipients and redirected 1,600 teens from pregnancy and drug abuse, according to the website.
